Well, here we are . . . waiting. Playing the waiting game. Our lil' guy is due to arrive in less than week and we've already had several "practice runs." Apparently my body is just warming up and getting itself prepped for the big day. I can't help but think of the Gwen Stefani song "What you waiting for?!" during this week, but looks like our baby has a plan of his own. D and I have tried to keep ourselves busy with random outings and have managed to hit up a couple touristy LA tourist spots. We went to the La Brea tar pits, had lunch at Phillippe's (famous for reportedly inventing the french dip sandwich), and a couple other random trips to some of our favorite movie theaters and restaurants. Might as well get out and about as much as we can before the baby comes.
Through these last couple weeks, I found it amusing to watch people's reactions to my belly. I'm quite pregnant at this point and I've narrowed down the different expressions in to three main categories: lip-curling fear, utter confusion, or extreme excitement. The lip-curling fear is primarily from men, with the expression of "Dear God!! I've never seen a woman so pregnant AND she's out in public too?! Please say that she will NOT DELIVER at this very moment in front of me." The utter confusion is a reaction I get when I'm partially blocked from view or get out of a car. From the car window, I don't believe that I look obviously pregnant. After the 5 minutes it takes me to wiggle out of the car and finally stand up and BAM show the whole world that I'm 9-months pregnant, the utter confusion that turns up on the surrounding people's faces does make me giggle. The last one, is usually a reaction I get from women (however, more recently some guys have been joining this group too). No matter where I go, I get a least one comment from an excited Mom or a young woman who would like to be a Mom, that will excitedly ask me everything politely possible about my pregnancy and lil' dude to be. After asking me lots of questions, the Moms will proceed to tell me every delivery/pregnancy horror story that they can think. That or they try to guess what sex my baby is by how I'm carrying the baby. D asked me if I thought it was annoying to get so many comments, but I said that although the conversations can sometimes be a little tiresome, I always think it is sweet to hear how excited people are about a new life. He and I have both have been presently surprised by all the excitement and well-wishes that come from complete strangers on the street. We're both ecstatic about the new addition to our family as well, I just hope our little bundle of joy decides to make his first appearance sooner rather than later. Keeps your fingers crossed for us!
